What we treat

At The Schoeman Clinic, we focus on identifying and treating the underlying drivers of hormonal and metabolic imbalance rather than simply managing symptoms.

Our work supports women and men from early adulthood through later life, addressing concerns such as perimenopause, menopause, andropause, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal issues, insulin resistance, weight regulation, gut imbalances, and nutrient deficiencies. Many of our patients come to us with complex, long-standing symptoms that have not been fully resolved elsewhere.

We combine bioidentical hormone replacement therapy with functional medicine to restore optimal physiology, improve energy, stabilise mood, enhance metabolic health, and support long-term wellbeing. Every treatment plan is tailored, evidence-based, and guided by detailed specialist testing, helping patients to understand their health and make informed lifestyle choices.

Diagnostics and special investigations

A – Functional medicine testing

1. GI360 Test – Understanding Your Gut Health

Your gut plays a vital role in your energy, immunity, hormones, and overall well-being. When it’s out of balance, it can show up as bloating, food sensitivities, inflammation, or even issues beyond digestion.

The GI360 test is a simple at-home stool test that uses advanced technology to give us a clear picture of your gut health. It checks for bacteria, viruses, and parasites, measures the balance of your microbiome, and identifies whether dysbiosis (gut imbalance) may be driving your symptoms.

With this insight, we can get to the root cause of your digestive and inflammatory issues and create a personalised plan to help you feel better from the inside out.

2. 184 IgG Food Sensitivity Test

Food sensitivities can trigger a wide range of symptoms, from bloating, headaches, and skin rashes to fatigue, sleep problems, and joint pain. Because these reactions are often delayed, it can be difficult to identify which foods are the culprits.

The 184 IgG Food Sensitivity Test is a simple blood test that screens for reactions to 184 different foods. It helps uncover hidden triggers, guiding a personalised nutrition plan to improve gut health, reduce inflammation, and restore long-term wellbeing.

3. Zonulin Test

Zonulin is an important marker of intestinal permeability (often referred to as “leaky gut”). Elevated levels have been linked to conditions such as coeliac disease, non-coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), and other gastrointestinal and systemic disorders.

Measuring zonulin provides valuable insight into the integrity of the gut barrier. This test can also be used to track progress and monitor the effectiveness of treatment protocols, particularly when performed in conjunction with the GI360 Zonulin test.

4. Organic Acids Test (OAT)

The Organic Acids Test is one of the most comprehensive functional tests available and is often recommended as a first step in understanding the root causes of complex or persistent health concerns.

5. Environmental Toxins and Your Health

Every day we’re exposed to chemicals and pollutants through food, water, air, and household products. Over time, these environmental toxins can build up in the body and contribute to fatigue, hormone imbalance, mood changes, fertility issues, and even chronic illnesses.

Functional Medicine testing helps us uncover hidden toxic exposures that may be affecting your health. With this insight, we can create a personalised plan to reduce your toxic load, support detoxification, and restore balance.

6. Mycotoxin Testing

Mould exposure is more common than many people realise, and the toxins it produces (mycotoxins) can contribute to fatigue, brain fog, allergies, breathing problems, and even chronic pain. If you’ve lived or worked in a damp environment and struggle with ongoing symptoms, mycotoxin testing can help uncover whether mould is affecting your health.

B – Cardiology - (in association with the One Heart Clinic)

1. CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA)

Your heart health is vital, and a CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) is one of the most accurate ways to check it. This simple, non-invasive scan shows whether your heart arteries are narrowing or hardening, helping us assess your risk of heart attack or stroke.

The scan is quick, safe, and highly recommended if you have symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath, or if you’re at higher risk due to family history, high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol.

By detecting early changes in your arteries, a CTCA allows us to take proactive steps to protect your long-term heart health.

2. Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)

A single blood pressure reading in the clinic doesn’t always tell the whole story. ABPM is a simple 24-hour test that measures your blood pressure throughout the day and night while you go about your regular routine. This provides a far more accurate picture, helping us tailor the right treatment plan for you.

3. Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET)

Unlock the most accurate picture of your heart, lung, and metabolic health. A CPET test measures how your body performs under exercise stress, helping detect hidden risks, optimise fitness, and guide personalised longevity strategies.

4. Advanced Heart Imaging at The Schoeman Clinic

Advanced heart imaging at The Schoeman Clinic goes beyond diagnosis—it is a powerful tool to prevent disease, optimise cardiovascular health, and support your long-term vitality.

C - Imaging

1. Schoeman Clinic x Ezra Body Scan Partnership

The Ezra body scan is a comprehensive imaging service combining high-end MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) with optional low-dose CT (Computed Tomography) add-ons. It’s non-invasive and designed to provide a clearer view inside your body, beyond what a standard imaging test offers.

2. Pelvic Ultrasound for Women’s Health

A pelvic ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive scan that gives us a detailed view of the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding structures. In the context of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and women’s health, it plays an important role in ensuring your treatment is both safe and effective.

Ultrasounds can:

  • Monitor the lining of the womb (endometrium) when taking HRT
  • Detect fibroids, cysts, or other structural changes early
  • Provide reassurance if you experience irregular bleeding or pelvic symptoms
  • Support overall gynaecological health and prevention

By combining pelvic ultrasound with functional and hormone-focused care, we can make sure your therapy is personalised, closely monitored, and aligned with your long-term health goals.

D - Misc Investigations

1. The Value of Sleep Studies in Functional Medicine & Longevity

Quality sleep is the foundation of long-term health, yet many people live with undiagnosed sleep issues such as apnoea, restless sleep, or disrupted REM cycles. A sleep study provides detailed insight into how your brain, heart, lungs, and muscles function while you sleep, allowing us to identify hidden problems and tailor treatment for better health and longevity.

Benefits of a sleep study:

  • Detects sleep apnoea, REM sleep behaviour disorder, and other disturbances
  • Identifies causes of fatigue, poor concentration, and low energy
  • Helps optimise hormone balance, metabolism, and weight management
  • Supports cardiovascular and brain health by reducing long-term risk factors
  • Provides personalised guidance to restore deep, restorative sleep

Better sleep means better recovery, stronger immunity, sharper cognition, and healthier ageing.

E - Cancer Screening

Early Cancer Detection with Trucheck at The Schoeman Clinic

At The Schoeman Clinic, we are proud to offer Trucheck Intelli, a cutting-edge blood test that can detect over 70 different types of cancer at an early stage. In partnership with trusted providers, we bring this technology to our patients as part of our commitment to prevention, longevity, and whole-body health.

Why early cancer screening matters

Statistics show that 1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. Unfortunately, many cancers are only found once they have already spread, making treatment more complex and outcomes less favourable.

By identifying cancer before symptoms develop, we can intervene earlier, improve survival rates, and reduce the need for aggressive treatments. Early detection saves lives.

What is Trucheck Intelli?

Trucheck Intelli is a simple, revolutionary blood test designed to detect cancer at an early stage. Unlike traditional screening programmes, which focus on only a handful of cancers, Trucheck can identify more than 70 solid organ cancers – including breast, lung, bowel and prostate – as well as several aggressive cancers not routinely checked for.

It works by looking for circulating tumour cells (CTCs), tiny fragments of cancer that can shed into the bloodstream before a tumour becomes large enough to cause symptoms. Once detected, these cells are analysed to determine the likely tissue or organ of origin, guiding doctors towards the next best step in investigation and care.

Key benefits of Trucheck

  • One test that checks for multiple cancers
  • Non-invasive, quick, and simple blood draw
  • Can detect cancers that are not covered in NHS screening programmes
  • High sensitivity and accuracy for early-stage detection
  • Helps to avoid late diagnoses and supports better long-term outcomes

Who is Trucheck for?

Trucheck is most commonly recommended for adults over the age of 40, especially if you have risk factors such as family history or lifestyle concerns. However, suitability is always assessed on an individual basis at your initial consultation.

It is important to note that Trucheck does not replace NHS screening programmes but can be used alongside them for added peace of mind and broader cancer protection.

The process is simple

  1. Consultation – We discuss your medical history, risk profile, and whether Trucheck is appropriate for you.
  2. Blood draw – A small sample of blood is taken at our clinic.
  3. Laboratory analysis – Your blood is analysed for circulating tumour cells.
  4. Results in 2 weeks – You receive a written report and a consultation with our doctor to explain your results.

Understanding your results

  • Negative result – No circulating tumour cells detected, suggesting a lower risk of cancer.
  • Positive result – Circulating tumour cells detected, requiring further targeted investigations.
  • Indeterminate result – Cells found but tissue of origin unclear; a repeat test is offered.

Whatever the outcome, you will always have a detailed consultation to discuss your report and next steps.

Our approach

At The Schoeman Clinic, we believe in an integrated systems approach to health. Trucheck is one part of this, but we also offer:

  • Comprehensive blood work
  • Gut and food sensitivity testing
  • Organic acid testing for brain and metabolic health
  • Cardiology screening and imaging
